The City Council of the City of Willis on Sept. 23, 2025 approved an ordinance amending the official zoning map to reclassify a tract of approximately 11.16 acres in the G.W. Lonis Survey, Abstract 313, from General Commercial to Multi‑Family to allow construction of two multifamily projects, Cannan Place and Camp Creek Apartments.
Jess Cross, Chief Building Official, told the Council the property had been previously replatted for multifamily use but the official rezoning action had not yet been completed; the ordinance updates the zoning map and includes associated infrastructure, drainage, and utility improvements required for development. Councilman Thomas Belinoski moved approval; Councilman Barney Stone seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
No public comments were recorded during the joint public hearing on the item. The rezoning authorizes staff and developers to proceed with permitting and site work consistent with the approved zoning; any subsequent plats, site plans or building permits will follow the City’s standard review process.
