Summary
Interim finance officer reported $64.36 million across three county accounts and a January sales-tax distribution of $2,149,355.85, a 3.8% increase from January 2025; commissioners said the numbers help in approaching a challenging budget year.
Brandy McMillan, interim finance officer, presented the March monthly finance report and account balances to the Surry County Board of Commissioners on April 20.
McMillan reported the county's operating balances as of April 16, 2026: Truist operating account $10,609,061.92; First Horizon (payroll) $1,784,339.58; and the North Carolina Capital Management Trust $51,965,947.52, for a combined total of $64,359,349.02. "In Truist operating we have $10,609,061.92," McMillan said, then summarized the other accounts and the total.
She also told the board the county received $2,149,355.85 in sales tax on April 13 for January distributions, representing a 3.8% increase from January 2025. Commissioner Eddie Harris described the sales-tax uptick as a positive sign amid ongoing budget discussions, but said budget work remains challenging.
The report was presented for information as the board continues work on the upcoming fiscal-year budget; no formal action was taken during the meeting.
