At the Jan. 15 meeting the EDA received a tourism update from Explore Goochland staff, who said the county secured a Virginia tourism grant in 2024 to increase overnight visitation.
The 'Cozy Couple Getaway' digital campaign ran five months and generated 22,871 page views on the dedicated campaign page, staff said. When compared with the same period in 2023, the accommodations page saw nearly a 500% increase in views, and staff reported a Q4 increase in transient‑occupancy tax revenue of roughly 8.37% versus the prior year.
Explore Goochland also reported that the county is now represented in several Virginia welcome centers and has radio spotlights and placements in the Virginia Restaurant & Lodging Travel Association visitor guide. Staff noted that full tourism impact numbers for 2024 will not be available until September 2025 because the official reports lag by more than a year.
The EDA did not take formal action but will include tourism reporting in the countywide 2024 update that marketing staff are compiling.
