Willow Springs’ village board voted April 11 to award a contract to American Veil Coating Inc. for sports-court repairs and resurfacing at Lions Park and Willow Park, approving the $89,865 bid after staff described the scope and funding.
President Nanaimo summarized the work: Lions Park will receive crack repairs (using a multilayer, fiberglass-reinforced patch) and Willow Park will receive new asphalt as needed, a sport-court coating, striping, new posts, nets and the reconfiguration of one court to add two pickleball courts. Trustees discussed sequencing: asphalt work must be completed first and allowed to cure, then the sport-court coating will be applied and left to settle for an estimated 30 to 45 days.
Funding for the project was described as primarily from ARPA (approximately $88,000 allocated) plus the village’s parks-improvement budget line. Director Brandon and staff reviewed references and said they had contacted municipalities and park districts that recommended the vendor’s work.
During discussion trustees asked whether local contractors could perform the work; staff said few firms offer this specialized sport-court coating and that the selected vendor is highly recommended. The motion to award the contract was made by a trustee, seconded, and passed by roll call.
The board directed staff to schedule the asphalt work and to plan for the curing period before final surfacing and stripe layout. Implementation and scheduling will be handled by Parks & Recreation staff.
