Maywood forwards special-use request for vocational nursing school at Lily Plaza to planning commission

The Village of Maywood Board gave staff consensus Nov. 17 to move a special-use permit request from Vital Signs Healthcare Training Institute for a proposed vocational nursing school at 905B S. 5th Ave. (Lily Plaza) to Planning and Zoning for public hearing and consideration.
Karl Palmquist, the Village's planning and zoning officer, summarized the request and said the proposed program would offer state-certified training for nursing assistants in an eight- to ten-week course, with class sessions in both daytime and evening hours. Palmquist said the Illinois Department of Public Health must approve the program and that parking for students and staff is available on School Street to the south of the plaza.
Assistant Village Manager David Myers told trustees staff had circulated meeting materials by email and expected to return to the Board in January with a final recommendation following the public-hearing process.
The Board did not take final action; the referral allows Planning/Zoning to evaluate zoning impacts, parking, and state licensing requirements before any permit is granted.
