Board amends Calhoun County Farmland Preservation ordinance to add township representation and appraiser standard

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners adopted amendments to the Calhoun County Farmland Preservation Program ordinance at its Aug. 17 meeting.
Planning Consultant Jennifer Bomba said a public hearing on Aug. 3 considered two changes: (1) providing for general township representation on the Calhoun County Agricultural Preservation Board and (2) allowing use of a state‑certified appraiser when determining the value of development rights. Bomba reported there were no public comments or written input received on the proposed changes. The Board approved the ordinance amendment (Res.134‑2006) by roll call vote, yes — 7.
The amendment is intended to broaden township representation on the Agricultural Preservation Board and standardize valuation practices for development rights by permitting certified appraisers to determine value.
