On Feb. 5 the Infrastructure Committee approved the city's annual roadway resurfacing program and also approved a multi-item consent package covering vehicle purchases, several IEPA/state-motor-fuel-tax resolutions, and contract awards.
Staff described the resurfacing program as approximately 2.5 miles of street resurfacing (largely in the Crescent Peoples subdivision) selected from a pavement-condition evaluation; eight bids were received and the lowest responsive bid was approximately $1.28 million against a $1.45 million combined budget. Shorter Asphalt Services was identified as the recommended contractor. The committee moved, seconded and approved the resurfacing award by roll call.
During the consent portion of the meeting the committee approved several items on the consent agenda, including change orders and vehicle purchases from Haggerty/Hagerty Ford of West Chicago, multiple local public agency and state motor-fuel-tax expenditure statements, a water-treatment-plant filter rehabilitation contract, CDBG intergovernmental agreements for water-main and street work, and a leaking underground storage tank remediation contract. The chair noted several items had been pulled for separate discussion earlier in the meeting; other consent items were approved by group motion.
Staff also reported on winter operations and salt supply: the city has reduced annual salt purchases in recent years (staff compared roughly 4,000 tons in 2022 to 1,600 tons last year), but supplier constraints mean the city may need to order up to the 120% maximum under the county bid this season and will likely place a larger order to ensure supply. Staff said they will pursue partnerships with neighboring communities and expect to place additional purchase orders in the near term.
Votes approving the resurfacing contract and the consent package were recorded by roll call and the motions passed. The committee adjourned following the staff reports.
