Administrator announces free Willow Springs food pantry and reports Lyons Township land inquiry

The village administrator told the board the village will host a free food pantry in partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the township of Lyons and other local partners. The pantry will be held at the Willow Springs Community Center on Sept. 17, with follow-up dates Oct. 15 and Dec. 17; the distributor plans to bring enough food for about 100 families initially and will expand if demand grows.
"It's free of charge for the village of Willow Springs," the administrator said, describing roles for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the village, the township and local partners to host and distribute resources. The administrator said staff will finalize a 2025 schedule after evaluating demand through December.
The administrator also reported that Lyons Township High School requested a meeting to discuss a potential land sale in Willow Springs. Village staff provided existing zoning information and asked that the school reach out to adjacent stakeholders — including Pleasant Dale Elementary School, the Pleasant Dale Park District and Tri-State Fire Protection District — to gather input about development concerns.
The board said it will continue to monitor any formal proposals and notify residents if the situation progresses.
