Burr Ridge amends nuisance code to limit commercial landscaping on holidays

Staff told the board the ordinance clarifies that the existing weekday window for commercial outside maintenance is set in the code and that residents performing work on their own property remain exempt. The revision adds snow‑clearing activities as an explicit safety exemption and aligns the violation penalty with other municipal fines.
Trustee Francis, who asked the board to revisit the rule, described a Thanksgiving Day disturbance from a contractor, saying the equipment ‘‘permeates into my house’’ and that his phone decibel meter registered about 80 dB on his front step. He asked the board to prohibit commercial contractors from working on holidays; Francis emphasized that resident self‑maintenance would not be affected.
Other trustees and meeting participants debated narrower weekday hours (one trustee suggested changing the start from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and shortening evening hours) and removing Sunday as a permitted day for commercial work. Several trustees raised concerns about unintended cost increases for landscaping businesses and recommended further discussion to balance resident peace with contractor scheduling.
Mayor (speaker 3) moved the ordinance as discussed; the motion carried on a 5‑0 roll call. The board asked staff to keep Trustee Smith’s implementation suggestions in mind and to bring additional details back in early 2026.
