Bike Fremont calls for more enforcement after three recent traffic fatalities

Andreas Kovanich, speaking on behalf of Bike Fremont, told the City Council that the community had seen three traffic fatalities in the previous 30 days and that the total for 2025 had reached seven.
“We had 3 traffic fatalities in the last 30 days, which puts the total for 20 25 at 7 dead people,” Kovanich said, adding that one recent fatality occurred on a sidewalk and that reckless driving, including red‑light running, appears to be worsening.
Kovanich urged the council to revisit enforcement and engineering strategies, saying that statements from the police (he cited a prior budget discussion in which Chief Washington said traffic enforcement was adequate) appear inconsistent with the worsening trends he described.
No council action was taken during the public comment period; Kovanich asked the council to place the issue for further discussion so enforcement and engineering responses can be evaluated.
