“One of the things we're noticing is that there are people who are frequently going into our neighborhood just, like, driving around... and then going out and just, like, repeating the process,” Chu said, asking for plainclothes police officers to patrol and to engage with people who repeatedly drive through the area.
Chu said the pattern appears repetitive and that proximity to Highway 880 may make the neighborhood more vulnerable. He asked the council to consider targeted enforcement so officers can determine whether those seen cruising the area have legitimate reasons to be there.
The comment period is for public input only; the mayor noted the council cannot take immediate action during oral communications but offered to have staff follow up. City staff indicated a staff member would connect with Chu after the meeting to discuss next steps.
