The Virginia House of Delegates on March 14 adopted House Resolution 393 commending Braden Health for reopening a rural hospital in Patrick County.
Delegate Williams of Patrick County introduced the resolution, saying Braden Health purchased a 63,000‑square‑foot building and invested $15,000,000 of private capital to reopen a 25‑bed critical‑access hospital and related services, including an emergency department, radiology, a pharmacy and operating rooms. "They put $15,000,000 into it," Williams said, noting the facility opened Jan. 5 and that more than 150 jobs were created, many filled by Patrick County residents.
The resolution commends the private investment and the hospital’s contribution to local health care access and economic development in a community that had lost a hospital in 2017. Williams emphasized no taxpayer dollars were used and described the reopening as a bipartisan success for the county.
The House adopted the resolution by voice vote after Williams moved its adoption. The clerk announced the adoption at the close of the motion.
The resolution is ceremonial and commends Braden Health’s actions; it does not by itself change state funding or regulatory authority. Members did not debate statutory changes or budgetary items during the adoption. The body recessed for the day at the conclusion of a morning business period and returned to formal business later in the session.
