The Antioch City Council unanimously approved two mayoral nominations on Feb. 24, appointing Addison Peterson to the Antioch Police Oversight Commission for a term through November 2028 and Don Aguilar to the Planning Commission for a four-year term through October 2029.
Mayor Ron Burnell introduced each nomination. Addison Peterson said he brings more than 15 years in public policy and governance and emphasized a commitment to accountability and public trust. The council received public endorsement from Devin Williams, vice chair of the police oversight commission, and then voted 4-0 to adopt the resolution appointing Peterson.
Don Aguilar, who previously served on Stockton's planning commission and runs a nonprofit focused on agriculture and urban farming, described his interest in land use, accessibility and community-driven design. Pastor Ed Harris spoke from the audience to support Aguilar's appointment. The council approved Aguilar's appointment 4-0 and the city clerk administered the oath of office.
Both appointments fill standing, public committee roles the council said are important for community oversight of policing and planning decisions. The mayor asked both appointees to remain available for swearing-in formalities and to begin work with their respective commissions.
