Fremont proclaims January 2026 as Compassionate Fremont Month

The Fremont City Council presented a proclamation proclaiming January 2026 as Compassionate Fremont Month, recognizing the city's partnership with the Human Relations Commission, the Fremont Public Library and local faith groups and noting the city's previous signing of a Charter of Compassion.
A representative accepted the proclamation on behalf of Compassionate Fremont. Sister Annette Burkhart, introduced as a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and the Tri City Interfaith Council, described local efforts to secure the charter and recalled a documentary about the city. She said that when the Charter of Compassion invited cities to be recognized, “my response was, Fremont already is a compassionate city.” Sister Annette said the charter was placed in a time capsule to be opened on Fremont's 100th anniversary.
Council members and staff invited residents to attend the city's 70th birthday celebration and other community events tied to the proclamation.
