Fremont council ratifies police union MOUs, withdraws two consent items

The Fremont City Council voted to approve its consent calendar and ratified memoranda of understanding with the Police Association and the Police Managers Association, after withdrawing agenda items 2e and 2f for consideration at a future closed session. The council chair had announced the two items’ withdrawal at the start of the meeting.

Council member Campbell praised the outcome, saying, “I'm just so happy that we were able to work together collaboratively and, ratify these MOUs so that we can continue to, work closely with our police and safety given that this is 1 of the priorities of the council.” A motion to approve the consent calendar (excluding the withdrawn items) was made and seconded; the chair called the vote and the consent calendar passed with the exception of items 2e and 2f, which were withdrawn.

The council did not provide a roll-call tally in the discussion; the meeting record indicates the consent calendar passed. The chair also noted there were no public speaker cards for the consent calendar items. The withdrawn items were directed to staff for return at a future closed-session meeting.

The meeting continued with a ceremonial proclamation and the oral communications period before the council adjourned and scheduled its next regular meeting in February.
