The Oakley City Council read and adopted a proclamation declaring March 2026 Prescription Drug Awareness Month in Oakley. The proclamation — read by the city clerk — cited regional overdose statistics and urged safe storage, responsible use and proper disposal to prevent accidental poisoning and misuse.
Danielle Alban, identified in the meeting as a Bay Area Community Resource Coalition coordinator, accepted the proclamation and emphasized the threat of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl, rising overdose rates among youth in East Contra Costa County, and the value of prevention and education.
Alban thanked the council "for taking this important step to protect the health and safety of our community" and reminded residents of a local take-back opportunity; the proclamation text referenced the DEA national prescription drug take-back day as 04/25/2026, while Alban announced a local take-back at the Oakley Police Department on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Council members congratulated coalition members and accepted the proclamation on behalf of the city.
