Riverside trustees deny fee waiver for neighbor-support resource drive, approve auditorium rental

Summary
Trustees approved a standard room reservation for April 26 but voted to deny a $300 fee waiver and $100 deposit waiver for the Riverside Neighbor Support Network after members said the applicant did not appear to be a 501(c)(3) and did not specify resident reach.
The Riverside Township Board of Trustees voted to allow the Riverside Neighbor Support Network to rent the township auditorium for an April 26 resource drive but denied the group's request to waive the $300 rental fee and $100 security deposit.
Trustee DeCostilla moved that the board grant the standard room request while denying the fee waiver; Trustee Clark seconded the motion. Clerk Reyes conducted the roll call; the motion carried with Trustees DeCostilla, Navarro, Clark and Supervisor Wilt voting yes.
Board members said the application materials did not show the group was a 501(c)(3) and did not specify how many Riverside residents would benefit. "From what you read and from what I have read, I do not see that they are a 501(c)(3)," Trustee DeCostilla said during the discussion, adding concern that waiving fees without nonprofit status could open the township to multiple similar requests.
The supervisor noted the application used two names—Riverside Rapid Response on one page and Riverside Neighbor Support Network on the other—and said a representative was not present to answer questions. The board encouraged the group to proceed with the rental if it pays the standard fee and deposit and suggested the organization provide clearer documentation at a future meeting.
