Recreation report: registration, events and staffing updates presented to Parks commission

At the Feb. 11 Danville Parks, Recreation and Art Commission meeting, recreation staff summarized recent programming and staffing developments and highlighted near-term events.
Staff said the Recreation Expo and Open House on Feb. 7 drew strong interest: registration for spring programs was 23% full, summer camps were 65% full within three days, and aquatics registrations were at 21%, with wait lists already forming. Staff said the Danville South Park playground ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Feb. 20.
Cultural-arts and facilities updates included the ongoing exhibit "One Voice, Many Visions" through March 27 at the Village Theatre Art Gallery and plans for an April performance and an April 4 music event. Staff announced personnel changes: Megan Eddings moved from cultural arts to facilities (retaining marketing duties), Beth Fergatiotis was hired as cultural arts administrative assistant, and the sports coordinator, Lillian O'Keefe, will depart on Feb. 19 to take a position in San Ramon; staff said recruiting for that role will begin.
Commissioners also received updates about the Sports Alliance funding replacement LED lights at Diablo Vista and other partner support for field maintenance. Staff suggested developing revenue-comparison data for the Hat McGee shade-structure proposal to inform CIP prioritization.
The commission thanked staff for the report and closed the item; no formal action was taken.
