Oak Ridge council fills multiple board vacancies in July meeting

The Oak Ridge City Council on Tuesday elected members to fill vacancies on several city advisory boards, approving selections nominated during the meeting.
Chanel Bach Knight was chosen unanimously for the Beer Permit Board after council members cast ballots in open roll-call voting. Council followed with several rounds of voting for other advisory seats: Sean Taylor won a majority in the second round to fill the single opening on the Disability Advisory Board; Jessica Butler and David Brady were elected to the two open seats on the Environmental Quality Advisory Board after separate ballots; and Carla Magnuson was selected for the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board after multiple rounds of voting.
City Clerk staff conducted the roll-call style voting and announced the tallies during the meeting. The council’s process for these appointments allowed multiple rounds when no candidate initially reached the required threshold for election.
Council members and staff thanked the many applicants who applied: the clerk’s office reported about 30 applicants across several boards. Council members emphasized that additional vacancies will be posted in January to stagger terms in the future.
The newly elected board members will take up duties according to the boards’ schedules and the city’s appointment rules.
