Residents packed public comment at the City of Bell council meeting on Feb. 11 to press elected officials for transparent, written criteria governing a proposed mobile-home-park relocation plan and to urge the council to oppose any plan that would displace long-term residents.
"You are asking families to make life altering decisions without showing them the rules you are using to judge them," said Karina Gastelum, who spoke for mobile-home residents and demanded a public release of the city's written criteria for eligibility, a clear explanation of how appraisals factor into compensation and a transparent breakdown of what each category of residence would receive. Gastelum said residents have been unable to arrange consistent meetings with decision-makers and have experienced repeated cancellations.
