Hampshire board tables police pension compliance report amid scheduling concerns

The Village of Hampshire Board of Trustees voted to table indefinitely a motion related to the police pension municipal compliance report after trustees expressed concern the pension board had cancelled or rescheduled a required meeting and key members were not present.

Trustee Merrick moved to remove (deny) the pension compliance report from the agenda because three of the five pension‑board members were not available to vote on a significant upcoming decision; Trustee Laura explained the rescheduling and said the village had pushed the meeting to a new date (April 4) to ensure all members could participate. "They had a meeting rescheduled that had to be canceled ... only three of the current five board members were involved in that decision," Laura said, explaining why a full complement was desired.

Counsel clarified procedural options available under Robert’s Rules and municipal practice, including tabling indefinitely, striking from the agenda, or treating the item as a renewal when brought back. After discussion, the board voted in a roll call to table the motion indefinitely (vote recorded 6–0). Counsel noted that because the village is not levying for a police pension fund at this time, statutory deadlines tied to levies do not apply; staff said the item will return after pension‑board action and that tabling the matter now does not put the village out of compliance with state rules.

Next steps: staff will return the compliance report to the agenda once the pension board has completed the required meeting and any material changes to the report will be noted.
