Two public commenters told the Finance Advisory Committee of Culver City on April 21 that the city should dedicate funding to preventative mental-health care and case-management services to reduce chronic homelessness.
Kasha, a USC Master of Social Work student and Culver City/Palms resident, told committee members that ‘‘access to funding for preventative care programs’’ could help address the ‘‘high prevalence of homelessness’’ affecting public safety and community well-being. Emily, a fellow USC MSW student, added that ‘‘access to preventative care can really significantly reduce the risk of chronic homelessness’’ and asked the committee to forward the recommendation to the committee’s budget review process.
Chair recognized the public comments and thanked the students for attending. The committee did not take formal action on the recommendation during the meeting; Chair and staff acknowledged the suggestion and noted it would be considered as part of upcoming budget discussions and the city manager’s budget process.
