Staff provided a monthly update on the Local Road Safety Plan and confirmed the committee’s grant application to Caltrans is pending. The original plan called for two beacons per intersection; the submitted grant expands that scope to 12 beacons across three intersections to improve pedestrian crossings.
Staff also said the design team is working on a preliminary bike-lane design near Shirley Station/24th Street and that, if the grant is awarded, the committee will receive a formal agenda item and presentation on the selected intersections and design details. Committee members asked staff to notify stakeholders when a grant award is confirmed and to present preliminary designs when available.
The committee expects notification from Caltrans in the next couple of months; staff said implementation steps and vendor selection will follow grant approval.
