Council honors Chaplain Victor Ordonez, introduces new chaplain and recognizes local lifesaver

Osborne then introduced Pastor Dan Melke as the department’s new chaplain. Mayor King and others thanked Ordonez for his service and welcomed Melke to the team.
The council also publicly recognized Mary Hagen, an Austin resident, who described performing CPR on an infant who had stopped breathing at a flag football game. Hagen said emergency responders arrived within minutes and the baby recovered; council members praised her quick action.
The recognitions drew applause from council members and attendees. The council did not take formal action beyond the commendation announcements.
