At its April 25, 2022 meeting the Medford Area Public School District Board approved a set of operational and program measures affecting staff compensation, student activities and facilities.
On personnel matters the finance committee moved and the board approved increasing sick and personal leave payout from $60 to $75. The board also approved a $1-per-hour wage increase for nine-month employees who pay 20% of their insurance premium, whether or not they elect coverage.
The board moved to fund athletics at $17,100 for one year to support seventh-grade football and girls’ and boys’ soccer programs for grades 6–8; that motion passed. The board approved a Drivers Education contract with Crabman Driving for 2022–25 after a presentation by Audra Brooks. The board accepted an offer from the City of Medford of two lots to build homes on; the motion to accept passed.
Board members also heard presentations on the Fast Forward Grant opportunity and a curriculum connection video, and Audra Brooks presented the 2022–23 budget study and instructional budgets for board consideration. Policy committee items advanced as the board approved several policies on second reading and held a first reading on RVA-JB Equal Educational Opportunity.
