The board received a construction update on the Chase City Elementary School project from Mr. Dalton, who reported steady progress despite recent weather delays.
Dalton said crews have completed installing water lines and a temporary office, are using the existing gym as a temporary office space, and have finished abatement and demolition of the old building. "We did discover some additional asbestos under the slab, which is an addition of what I had reported last meeting, and that is to be removed this week," he said.
He told the board that permit drawings have been submitted to the county and that the division expects to receive a building permit by the end of the week. Dalton outlined upcoming work: installing erosion control, completing permitting, grading the building pad, installing new footers, winterizing the building pad to allow footer work through the wet season, and starting construction of the park.
Dalton gave schedule targets: a hopeful substantial completion date of April 8, 2027, with final completion on June 15, 2027. He noted the team had made visible progress despite rain and snow and said they were staging bricks from the old building for distribution through the school front office.
Board members asked about salvaged bricks and logistics; Dalton said former staff members had contacted the project and that bricks would be staged and available by going through the school's front office.
The update was informational; no action was taken.
