Presentation: county school performance framework shows Chase City "off track," high school distinguished

Mecklenburg County School Board members received an overview of the division's 2025–26 School Performance and Support Framework from Ms. Averett, who said the framework is intended to guide targeted supports rather than act as a punitive label.

Averett distinguished the accountability framework from accreditation and highlighted multiple indicators — achievement, growth, readiness and graduation — used to rate schools. "Chase City is categorized as off track with a framework score of 78.2," she said, noting the school was 1.8 points shy of the on-track threshold. Clarksville (87.6), LaCrosse (86.7) and South Hill (80.8) were all reported as on track; Mecklenburg County High School earned a distinguished designation with a score of 103.9.

She emphasized that no division schools have federal identification for improvement, allowing the district to allocate resources proactively rather than responding to compliance mandates. The presentation compared the division's results with neighboring divisions and called out areas of strength, including mastery and reading readiness.

Board members responded with praise for staff work and data analysis and were reminded that the framework is intended to clarify next steps and supports for schools rather than define their entire performance story. The presentation closed with a call to use the data to strengthen instruction and targeted interventions rather than to label schools.
