Albert Lea accepts donations for EMS and Inclusive Park; updates fee schedule including cannabis licensing fees

The Albert Lea City Council on May 27 accepted two donations and approved amendments to the 2025 fee schedule.
City manager reported a $20,000 donation from Chevron Renewable Energy Group (Glenville) to Albert Lea Fire Rescue to purchase a Lucas mechanical chest-compression device. The manager said Fire Rescue personnel are trained to use the device but the city lacked a unit. Council thanked the donor and approved the acceptance.
Staff also reported a $5,000 donation from STARS Mentoring to fund a 20-by-20 flower bed at the Inclusive Park intended as a beautification and youth-mentoring project; council approved acceptance and thanked the organization.
Separately, staff presented fee schedule amendments effective May 30, 2025. Updates include a new aquatic season pass for ages 3'9 under specified purchase conditions, establishment of fees for cannabis business licenses and cannabis events (exact amounts to be set in the fee schedule as directed during the cannabis ordinance discussion), and a new investigation fee for employees affiliated with partnerships and corporate entities. Council approved the fee schedule changes.
The donation approvals and fee changes were adopted by motion and unanimous vote.
