Cobb County School District honors students and teachers with districtwide recognitions

Mr. Hill opened the recognitions portion of the Cobb County School District’s March 19 voting session by thanking teachers, leaders and students for recent accomplishments across the district. "We have some amazing teachers and leaders and students, and we just keep winning," he said.
The board and superintendent recognized Tritt Elementary School for receiving the district’s Arts and Integration Certification, citing the school’s work to weave creativity and expression into STEM instruction and naming principal Karen Carstens and assistant principal Niall Yates among those present.
District athletic honors included multiple GHSA state championships: Lassiter High School’s girls swim and dive team celebrated a seventh straight state title; the Lassiter boys earned the school’s first boys state championship. Individual champions named included Ashlyn Lofton (girls 100-yard breaststroke) and Gavin Halsick (boys 50-yard freestyle), whose time set new school and county records, Mr. Hill said. Kennesaw Mountain’s Isaiah Tucker was recognized for state records in the 100-yard butterfly and for plans to attend Princeton University on a swimming scholarship.
The board also recognized music and arts educators at elementary, middle and high school levels: Nikki Peters (Powder Springs Elementary), Jay Champion (Lost Mountain Middle School), Emily Cannon (Allatoona High School), Tracy Woody Kemp (Allatoona High School theater), Ashley Culley (Dodgen Middle School) and Dr. Kathleen Peca (Walton High School) were among those honored for instruction and leadership in the performing and visual arts.
Mr. Hill closed the recognition segment by thanking district staff and families who accompanied awardees. "This recognition highlights a school culture where curiosity, innovation, and creativity come together to support meaningful learning for every child," he said. The meeting then moved to the public-comment procedures and items requiring board action.
