Cobb County board recognizes student winners, schools for STEM/STEAM and district nutrition awards

The board honored a national contest winner and several schools for Cobb STEM/STEAM and Cognia certifications, and recognized Food & Nutrition Services for USDA and Georgia Farm to School awards and its local procurement program.
At its Nov. 13 meeting the Cobb County Board of Education honored student achievement and multiple school and district recognitions.
Ms. Shearer presented awards and recognitions, beginning with Charles Aquino of Durham Middle School, who won first place in the computer-aided design event at the 2025 National Technology Student Association conference in Nashville. "This award means the world to me," the district noted in announcing the honor.
The board also recognized South Cobb Early Learning Center for earning Cobb STEAM certification; Ford Elementary for Cobb STEAM certification after years of STEM work; Betty Gray Middle School for Cobb STEM certification; and Walton High School for earning Cognia STEM accreditation. Ms. Shearer noted that Cobb’s own STEM/STEAM certification program highlights district commitments to hands-on learning and cross-content integration.
Food & Nutrition Services received two district recognitions: the USDA "Turn Up the Beat" Quality Summer Meals Award (silver level) for 2024 and the Georgia Farm to School award for the 2024–25 school year. Executive Director Emily Hanlon and district chefs and cafeteria managers were invited forward; Shearer said the district sources local products from Georgia, Tennessee and Florida and highlighted the Harvest of the Month program.
Superintendent Ragsdale and others thanked staff, volunteers, and families for their roles in the recognitions and noted districtwide observances such as National STEM & STEAM Day (Nov. 8) and National School Psychology Week.
