Board approves playground replacement and contracts for Allatoona High and Griffin Middle under consent agenda

The district recommended approving a playground replacement for Eastside Elementary School to Playworld Preferred Systems at a cost of $218,892.90; the purchase includes removal of existing equipment and installation of the new playscape. "This is a third additional playground that the school chose to provide themselves," Smith said, explaining the purchase augments the district-provided primary and intermediate playgrounds.
The board also approved awarding a contract for site improvements at Allatoona High School to Ward Humphreys Incorporated of Marietta, Georgia, in the amount of $490,000; the work includes pedestrian ramp repairs and canopy reroofing and is part of the SPLA 6 budgeted program with a substantial completion target of July 2026. When a board member asked whether the Allatoona work was tied to the Career Academy construction, staff said it was school-related and not connected to the Career Academy project.
Finally, the board authorized a contract to Triad Construction Company Incorporated of Atlanta, Georgia, for Griffin Middle School renovations totaling $2,201,000. The scope includes door and window replacements, an emergency generator, elevator refurbishments, family and consumer science classroom renovations, and security-related entrance modifications; the project completion date is also scheduled for July 2026.
Board members asked clarifying questions about funding and the scope of the family and consumer science classroom renovations; staff said the work is room renovation and that additional detail could be provided by appropriate program leads. Because the items were placed on the consent agenda and no members objected, the board approved the purchases and contract awards during the work session.
