Blount County officials told the Commission Jan. 13 they plan to seek Rebuild Alabama program funds to replace a bridge on Warrior Creek Road and will match the requested state funds with county dollars.
County Engineer Dustin Stewart presented the FY2025 Rebuild Alabama report, saying the county had 38 projects in FY25. He reported the Deavers Town Road Bridge used $666,487.31 from the Federal Aid Rate Fund (FARF), and district CRAF withdrawals were District 1: $290,148.68; District 2: $294,067.34; District 3: $62,200.71; and District 4: $51,213.66. County Road 9 carried over $132,310.76 from FY24. Stewart said the CRAF ending balance was $1,607,184.36.
For the Warrior Creek Road bridge, Stewart said the county will request $350,000 from the Rebuild Alabama annual grant program and will provide a $100,000 county match; applications are due Feb. 18, 2026. The commission approved a resolution of support by unanimous vote.
Stewart also explained the county’s certificate of compliance for FY25 will be sent to the Transportation Committee and the Speaker of the House; it documents that 50% of CRAF funds must be expended via contract and that Blount County used 97% of its CRAF via contract in FY25.
Next steps: staff will prepare the grant application for the Warrior Creek Road bridge before the Feb. 18 deadline and proceed with local match budgeting if the project is recommended for funding.
