Blount County Commission approves resolutions, appointments, surplus sales and budget amendments

The Blount County Commission on March 10 approved several routine items including resolutions, appointments to boards, surplus-asset sales and budget amendments.
Chairman Bradley Harvey presented Resolution 2026-03-01 expressing support for UAB St. Vincent’s Blount Hospital; the resolution passed by unanimous vote. The commission also approved the appointment of Steven Goldstein to the Mental Health Board to fill the vacancy of Meleah Davis and reappointed Tamra Alldredge and Cathy Irvin to six-year terms. An Alabama River Day proclamation was adopted, and the commission approved a $600 donation from the commission to the Chamber of Commerce to support PALS '26.
County Attorney Scott Barnett told the board that "all parties were satisfied with the contract plus addendum" before the commission approved the rodeo contract. The commission approved the Palisades Park Board recommendation to install sport climbing hardware and approved multiple surplus and sale-by-best-means items, including countywide asset #7742 (asphalt distributor) and a package of District 1 vehicles and equipment and an Animal Shelter 2005 Dodge Caravan (asset #3955). All motions recorded in the minutes for these items passed by unanimous vote.
The commission approved various budget amendments across departments. Notable line-item revisions recorded in the minutes include a $1,500 increase to the Animal Shelter miscellaneous revenue (revising that line from $18,750.70 to $20,250.70), a $10,965 increase recorded in District 2 for sale of fixed assets and propane gas, and a $2,931.54 insurance recovery increase for Palisades Park that raised recoveries on insurance to $50,453.78 and repairs and maintenance — buildings and grounds to $36,824.51. Chairman Harvey reported that courthouse renovation construction was "moving forward as expected." The meeting concluded with announcements of a work session on April 9 and the next business meeting on April 14.
All items that drew recorded motions were approved by unanimous vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
