Freeman walked the council through practical tips — for example, keeping certain plastic lids attached so machines can process them more reliably and placing thin bag‑style plastics in the lobby bin for the city's beautification program. She said the Las Vegas facility she visited takes hundreds of tons per day and that staff there review incoming material to recover items that were missed. "I was blown away. My mouth dropped open ... This is so awesome," Freeman said while describing the plant's technology.
She encouraged schools to incorporate recycling education so students learn how to sort and bring the habit home, and volunteered to present to classrooms or community groups. Council members thanked Freeman and noted past confusion among residents about whether local collected materials were actually recycled; staff responded that recycling arrangements have changed over the past decade and the current contractor sends recovered materials to an out‑of‑valley facility for processing.
