Geneva County reports arena progress, bridge work and asset sales; spec building sale proceeds to pay loan

County staff provided a series of infrastructure and asset updates at the Feb. 23 meeting.
Chairman Toby Seay said the lettering on the Farm Center has been installed and discussed possible lighting. County Engineer Justin Barfield reported the contractor is pouring concrete on the multi-purpose arena with a projected completion in the first week of April. Barfield also said the bridge on Caldwell Road is complete and dirt work will begin, the Line Road bridge should be completed in the next few weeks, and the right of way for the White Oak Road bridge has been cleared with utility relocation underway.
Barfield presented a finalized agreement with J M Wood Auction for the sale of two dump trucks and a patch truck with a net guarantee of $380,500. County Attorney Phil Eldridge reported the closing on the sale of the county's spec building occurred last Friday and that the attorney's office in Dothan holds a check for $447,656.92; Eldridge said once the check is deposited the county will pay off the balance of the loan from Wiregrass Electric.
Barfield also said a four-way stop in the town of Black will be installed Wednesday and that the department has installed four driveway pipes in the past two weeks. EMA Director Brian Smith said the county is waiting on the State EMA for updates on storm shelters.
