The Geneva County Commission adopted a proclamation on March 9 declaring March 2026 Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in Geneva County.
Representatives from SpectraCare Health Systems, including Melissa Kirkland and two Purvis Center staff — Jessica Hall, identified as Director of Developmental Disabilities, and Renee Oats, identified as Director at the Purvis Center — spoke to the commission about services and programs the center provides to people with developmental disabilities. Chairman Toby L. Seay read the proclamation to the commission and attendees.
The proclamation, entered into the minutes, states SpectraCare Health Systems has provided more than 23,500 hours of service and served 25 clients through the Purvis Center. The proclamation also calls upon citizens, agencies, schools and businesses in Geneva County to increase awareness and support for persons with developmental disabilities.
Commissioner Todd Brannon made the motion to approve the proclamation; Commissioner Jeff Hatcher seconded it. The commission approved the proclamation by a 4-0 vote.
Next steps: the proclamation is entered into the county minutes and will serve as a local recognition of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month; no formal county funding or program changes were recorded in the minutes.
