County Engineer Justin Barfield told the commission the State's initial estimate to resurface the segment was about $370,000 but that State and county engineers agreed the road does not require resurfacing at this time. Barfield said the State indicated a process exists for a county to request a payout of non‑earmarked funds; he noted an auto-approved request of $200,000 had been discussed by the State.
Commissioner Weston Spivey moved to send a letter asking for $275,000 and Commissioner Bart Wilks seconded the motion. The commission voted 4-0 to approve sending the request.
Barfield said the highway will not be turned over to the county for maintenance until some time in 2027. The motion instructs county staff to prepare and transmit the formal letter requesting the payout.
