The Lauderdale County Commission on March 9 adopted a resolution approving an application from the West Lauderdale County Water and Fire Protection Authority to amend its Certificate of Incorporation. The amendment would change the entity's name to West Lauderdale Water Authority, update its principal office to 3353 County Road 200, Florence, Alabama, and revise the Authority's service area to include additional territory in Lauderdale County, including service within the municipal limits of the Town of Waterloo.
The Commission's resolution states that it reviewed the March 5, 2026 application and found as a matter of fact that the statements in the application are true and that the proposed amendments "promote the public health, convenience, and welfare of the residents of the County." The resolution authorized the Authority's chairman and secretary to record the Certificate of Amendment in the Office of the Judge of Probate of Lauderdale County. Brooke Slatton, County Administrator, attested that a quorum was present and that the meeting was open to the public.
The Authority's proposed changes remove references to fire-protection services and limit the entity's stated purpose to water service only. The application and attached certificate provide a detailed legal description of the revised service area, including road-based boundary points and mileage figures; the documents say those revisions are needed because the Authority added territory since it was first incorporated in 1966. The Alabama Secretary of State's office reserved the name "West Lauderdale Water Authority" for Lauderdale County on February 25, 2026, according to the submitted documentation. Judge of Probate Sara Holmes subsequently entered an order finding the proposed Certificate of Amendment complete and directed it be recorded.
The Commission's action is administrative: it approved the Authority's application under Chapter 88 of Title 11 of the Code of Alabama and authorized recording of the amendment. The record attached to the Commission action includes the Authority board resolution (adopted March 5, 2026) authorizing the amendment and certificates from the Authority's officers certifying adoption.
