Bonham cancels May 2 elections after certificates show unopposed candidates; council accepts financial report

At its March 9 meeting the Bonham City Council adopted orders of cancellation for both the May 2 general election and a special election to fill a vacancy after the City Secretary presented certifications that several candidates were unopposed.
The Order of Cancellation for the general election declared Jerrad Besch elected to Council Member Ward 1 and Ernie Quintana elected to Council Member Ward 5; the motion to cancel the election passed unanimously on a motion by Clark Smith, seconded by Kevin Hayes. The council separately cancelled the special election to fill a vacancy and declared Jason Wolf Laughing elected to Council Member Ward 4 and Allen Sanderson elected mayor; that motion passed unanimously on a motion by Kevin Hayes, seconded by Sam Fox.
The council also approved routine business: on a motion by Kevin Hayes, seconded by Ernie Quintana, the council accepted the February financial report. Sarah Osburn reported that "sales tax is trending at 5.5% over last year" and said the city audit is on track.
During the Citizens Opportunity to Speak, Rusty Deets of 332 Boyd Loop asked the council to address trash cans left in streets that prevent the street sweeper from completing its route. Keelan Haggard of 1795 FM 273 asked the council to address concerns about playground equipment and loitering at Powder Creek Park.
