Summary
At its April 20 meeting the Livonia board approved the consent agenda, several personnel actions (tenure, leaves, retirements), amended the meeting calendar and adopted four board policies on second reading (IDCA, JBD, KM, KMA); all motions passed unanimously.
The Livonia Public Schools Board of Education used its April 20 regular meeting to approve a slate of standard business items, personnel recommendations and policy updates.
On a single roll‑call vote the board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from previous meetings, a resolution for the LPS stormwater program, a water‑main agreement for the LCTC and ECC, and 2026–2027 cooperative agreements. Trustee Jarvis moved the consent agenda; the board approved it unanimously.
Personnel actions approved by the board included granting tenure to eligible probationary teachers (administration recommended these staff based on years of service, evaluations and documented student growth); a leave of absence for Anna Burris effective April 14, 2026 (approved consistent with the collective bargaining agreement); and resolutions of appreciation for 14 retirees whose combined service totals 412.7 years. The retirement resolutions were read and adopted on motion.
The board also amended its 2025–2026 meeting calendar, moving the May regular meeting from May 18 to May 26 and the June regular meeting from June 22 to June 15 (both at 6:30 p.m.), noting that the May change required a prior‑meeting vote.
On policies, the board approved second readings and final adoption of four policies after prior study‑session review: IDCA (summer school program), JBD (homeless students), KM (visits to schools) and KMA (unauthorized persons on school property). Each policy had been vetted at study sessions and the committee of the whole; administrators noted language updates to reflect current practice and statutory alignment where applicable.
Several other policies received first readings and will return for later action, including ICC (research and pilot studies), career technical education/enrollment policy, and IDG (adult education). No public comments were offered during audience communications.
All recorded motions during the meeting passed on unanimous roll-call votes from the trustees in attendance.
