The Story City City Council on June 18 approved Resolution No. 24-45, finally approving and confirming plans, specifications, the form of contract, and the estimate of cost for the Broad Street Reconstruction Project – Phase III. The motion to adopt Resolution No. 24-45 was made by Councilmember Solberg and seconded by Councilmember Ostrem; Councilmembers Ostrem, Phillips and Solberg voted aye and the motion carried.
Mayor Mike Jensen opened two public hearings on the project’s documents and a separate Resolution of Necessity; there was no public comment and both hearings were closed. Separately, the council voted to defer further action on the Resolution of Necessity to the council’s June 25, 2024 meeting at 6:00 p.m. (Motion by Councilmember Phillips; seconded by Councilmember Solberg; Aye – Ostrem, Phillips, Solberg). The deferral preserves time for staff and council to follow up on that specific procedural step.
Administrator Jackson reported that a bid opening for Broad Street Reconstruction Phase III occurred today with the Iowa Department of Transportation and that seven bids were received. Jackson told the council the contract allows 60 working days to complete the project. The council did not solicit public comment at the hearing.
Next steps: council will revisit the Resolution of Necessity at the June 25 special meeting; formal award of the contract will follow the city’s procurement process once bids are tabulated and staff brings a recommendation to council.
