Council presses Sky Zone operator on security after viral 'kid takeover' incident

Summary
City councilors questioned the owner of Rockin' Jump/Sky Zone about a widely shared social-media incident and on-site security; the operator said staff discontinued ticket sales, increased security and cleared the building after police response and agreed to work with police on camera connections.
Council members questioned the operator of Rockin' Jump Montgomery (doing business as Sky Zone) after residents and councilors raised safety concerns tied to a social-media-driven ‘‘kid takeover’’ and subsequent crowd-control incidents.
Kimberly Fudge, who said she represents the facility, described the sequence of events: staff monitored social-media posts, stopped ticket sales when capacity issues emerged, and called police when children refused to leave. She said the venue’s capacity for jumpers is 250, security officers are contracted (not off-duty police), and by the time officers arrived multiple patrol units had responded and cleared the building. Her account said no firearms were found and that the facility subsequently tightened security, posted policies on social media, and stopped admissions when the crowd exceeded safe capacity.
Council members pressed for more perimeter control and suggested technical fixes. One council member asked whether outdoor cameras were connected to the department’s StarWatch system; councilors urged a follow-up meeting with police to pursue a StarWatch connection and recommended a visible security presence at exits. The council did not take regulatory action during the meeting but asked the facility to coordinate with police and city staff on permits, camera integration and ongoing safety protocols.
The facility welcomed suggestions and said it has increased on-site security and now stations security personnel at exits. Councilors emphasized balancing a viable family business with public-safety protections, and they asked the police chief and inspections staff to meet with the operator to discuss concrete steps.
