Judge Carrie McGrath proposed establishing a Little Free Courthouse library on the Justice Building’s second floor and told the board the program would carry no cost to the county.
McGrath said the idea was promoted by the Indiana Court of Appeals and Indiana Supreme Court initiatives and that community volunteers will donate the bookcase and supply and maintain books. “We have somebody who will donate the actual book case to house the books, somebody who will, supply the books ... maintain its appearance,” she said.
Commissioners asked about use by children and adults and noted a prior lobby bookcase that had been used by visitors. A commissioner moved and the board approved the proposal by voice vote.
The library is intended to make reading materials available for families and visitors to the Justice Building; staff will proceed with placement and installation.
