The Athens City Council held a public hearing on Jan. 12 on a request for a Specific Use Permit to allow a manufactured home at 839 N. Prairieville St. (lots 9B, 9B1 & 9B2, Block 103).
City Planner Ronda Cockerham presented the request, noting the Future Land Use Plan designates the area as Medium Density Residential with Commercial/Office to the east and that 13 property owners within 200 feet were notified; staff received one response. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval with a vote recorded as 2–1–1.
Mayor Aaron Smith opened the public hearing. Applicant Jose Lopez said the manufactured home would be his primary residence and that he would place it on a concrete foundation. There were no other public comments. The hearing was closed and the council heard the first reading of an ordinance regarding the Specific Use Permit; no final decision was rendered at the meeting.
