Assistant Director of Public Works Naz reported the 2026 capital improvement program includes 60 projects with a $55 million budget; 17 projects (~$10.5M) completed since June 2025, 12 projects under construction and several projects nearing award or in design, including LED and field renovations at Heroes Park.
Assistant Director of Public Works Naz presented the city's quarterly capital improvement program (CIP) update on April 21, reporting the current program includes 60 projects with a total budget of $55,000,000. Naz said 17 projects have been completed since June 2025 representing about $10.5 million in investment, and 12 projects are currently in construction.
Naz highlighted recently completed work: Vintage Park renovations (completed in February), pickleball court restriping, citywide sidewalk repairs, and major renovations at Heroes Park (regraded fields, new turf, LED lighting and improved fencing). The Heroes Park lighting and field work were described as significant long‑term investments; Naz said the project has been nominated for a county engineering award and that the fields had not been renovated in more than 30 years.
Naz reviewed projects in construction and procurement, including El Toro Road corridor improvements (construction recently began), Bayek Tribute intersection widening, and the Lake Forest Sports Park HVAC replacement project in procurement/submittal. Staff noted upcoming awards and advertisement plans for several park and street projects (Etniescape Park LED lighting, park trail repairs, slurry seal zones, and other maintenance work). Naz said design work is underway for arterial wall enhancements and Bay Parkway resurfacing, among other items, and that staff continues predesign work on Kavanagh Park improvements.
Council thanked staff for the work and noted the CIP advances critical infrastructure and community amenities. The item was received and filed; no additional approvals were requested at the meeting.
