Council authorizes bids for fire station roof, park toilets and lighting repairs

On April 9 the Cleveland Town Council directed staff to pursue bids for several town maintenance projects and agreed to approve spending once competitive bids were returned. Heather (the treasurer) outlined a prioritized list of things that could be completed before June, including repairing roof leaks at the old fire station, installing self-flushing ADA-compliant toilets at the park restroom, replacing lights in the old fire station bay and cemetery shop, and related small repairs.
Heather said crews and contractors had been contacted and that a couple of roofing and plumbing contractors had already visited sites to estimate work. Council members agreed it would be appropriate to solicit bids and return to the council for approval of spending after the bids are in. "Once we have bids, then we could talk about approving," a council member said. The motion to proceed with obtaining bids and move forward with maintenance work was approved by the council.
Members also discussed longer-term possibilities — applying for utility or vendor assistance for fixtures (including inquiry about Rocky Mountain Power programs to replace fluorescent lighting) and opportunities for county tourism grants to help fund park bathrooms — and asked staff to include those funding avenues when reporting back on bids and cost estimates.
