Huntington Park’s City Council approved guidelines for a Measure A–funded rental assistance program intended to prevent homelessness for extremely low‑income households.
Lisette Montoya (housing consultant) presented the program design and funding: the city received about $446,824 in Measure A funds for FY 25–26; the rental assistance allocation discussed was $186,420. Under the guidelines the benefit is targeted at households at 30% of AMI; staff estimated the allocation could assist roughly 20 applicants at a cap of $9,321 per household (three months rental arrears plus three months of forward rent, totaling up to six months). Eligibility requires Huntington Park residency, meeting the income limit, a current residential lease and a signed agreement among the applicant, landlord and city; payments will be made directly to landlords.
Council members urged maximizing reach by coordinating with county prevention programs and La Casa, suggested landlord registration requirements, and asked whether undocumented households could be served. Staff said county guidance allows flexibility and that the city is not required to collect immigration status verification for these funds. The council adopted the guidelines and a resolution authorizing the program and appropriation (unanimous roll call).
