Summary
Caltrans presented Rosemead with a Clean California Community designation and a commemorative road sign; staff proposed three potential installation sites, with Rosemead Park on Mission Avenue identified as the preferred location pending future council action.
Caltrans and city staff congratulated Rosemead for earning the Clean California Community designation and presented a commemorative road sign to be installed at a location to be determined.
Arlene Chu briefed the council on the designation criteria and said Rosemead met at least 10 of 15 state criteria, including formal pledges, youth education on litter abatement, greening projects and anti-illegal-dumping policies. Richard Hung, a Caltrans District 7 representative, described the broader Clean California effort and presented the sign to the city.
Public works staff proposed three potential sites for the sign, with the first choice being the front of Rosemead Park facing Mission Avenue and two additional options along Rosemead Boulevard. Staff noted that Rosemead Boulevard is a state right-of-way in some stretches and Caltrans authorization will be required for any installations within the state right-of-way.
Council members praised the city’s beautification work and asked staff to return with a formal agenda item for location approval and next steps. The item was informational and no formal council vote on a location was taken during the meeting.
