Shiawassee County board elects Brodeur chair, Holzhausen vice chair

Shiawassee County commissioners elected Commissioner Brodeur as chair for a two-year 2025–2026 term and Commissioner Holzhausen as vice-chair for 2025 during the board’s organizational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. in the Commissioner Chambers at the Surbeck Building in Corunna.

Caroline D. Wilson, Shiawassee County clerk and clerk to the board, called the meeting to order, led the Pledge of Allegiance and recorded roll call. Commissioners Haley, Holzhausen, Brodeur, Johnson, Garber, Howard and Shepard were present.

Commissioner Howard nominated Commissioner Brodeur for the two-year chairperson term; there were no other nominations. A roll-call vote elected Brodeur as chair, with seven votes in favor: Commissioners Holzhausen, Brodeur, Johnson, Garber, Howard, Shepard and Haley.

After the vote, Commissioner Brodeur took the chair and presided over the remainder of the meeting. Commissioner Garber nominated Commissioner Holzhausen for a one-year vice-chair term for 2025; no other nominations were offered. A roll-call vote elected Holzhausen as vice-chair, passing 7–0 with votes from Commissioners Johnson, Garber, Howard, Shepard, Haley, Holzhausen and Chair Brodeur.

Chair Brodeur told the board that a list of committee assignments will be circulated to commissioners by email in the next few days. He then opened the floor for public comment; no one responded. The meeting adjourned at 5:04 p.m.

The board did not take other substantive actions at the organizational meeting; committee assignments and any follow-up items will be handled administratively and announced when distributed.
