Scofield council approves $12,000 fireworks contract for Pleasant Valley Days on July 3

Scofield — At a special meeting March 17, the Scofield Town Council approved a $12,000 contract with Landis Productions to hold the Pleasant Valley Days fireworks display on Friday, July 3.
The chair reported that Landis said it will not know its full costs for 2027 until July and asked the council to delay any 2027 contract. "They said if they don't know what their costs are going to be until after July ... I was thinking we needed to get it done. But I did find out yesterday that they don't do it until July anyway," the chair said; the council agreed to table an immediate 2027 contract.
Under old business the council considered moving the Pleasant Valley Days fireworks to Friday, July 3, after the chair said Landis had located a certified pyro and warned of industry-wide price increases. The chair said the approved $12,000 contract would roughly preserve the show's scale in light of a reported 15–18% cost increase from the previous year. "I'll make a motion to do on the July 3," the chair said; a committee member seconded the motion and the council approved it by voice vote.
The meeting record does not show a roll-call tally or list which individual councilors voted yes or no. Council adjourned at 11:10 a.m.
Next steps: staff will complete the contract with Landis Productions for the July 3 show and report back if the vendor's final cost estimates require budget adjustments.
